Sad feelings and crying bouts that follow childbirth are known as the "baby blues." The baby blues are common and tend to decrease within a week or two. Around one in seven women will experience something more extreme than the typical baby blues. While the baby blues tend to pass quickly, postpartum depression (PPD) can be long-lasting and severely affect a mother's ability to safely care for her child. Objectives. This workshop is designed to: 1. Provide an overview of Postpartum Depression, review the risk to the mother, child, and the family. 2. Discuss challenges and barriers of Postpartum Depression for the mother and child. 3. Discuss how to access available services and resources as well as review eligibility for services under Medicaid.
