 Course Description: This workshop is designed to help you understand: 

Objective 1. Legislation passed during the Texas Legislative Session that may influence civil litigation that effect the protection and safety of children involving child abuse and neglect cases.

Objective 2. Legislation passed during the Texas Legislative Session that effect the protection and safety of children in the criminal justice system, as well as other changes to criminal law. 

Objective 3. Legislative changes from this Texas Legislative Session that effect professionals in the field of child abuse. 

Speaker

 Justin Wood serves on the leadership team at CACTX as General Counsel and Vice President of External Relations where he handles legal and public policy matters, as well as statewide partner relations for the 71-member network of child advocacy centers throughout Texas. 

Prior to joining CACTX, Justin served as a prosecutor for many years, both in Harris County and Travis County.  In the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, he reached the rank of Chief Felony Prosecutor and was honored to seek justice for crime victims, particularly child victims of physical and sexual abuse.  Following his time in Houston, Justin made the move to Austin and served as the Chief of the Public Integrity Unit in the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.  In addition to prosecution, Justin has a long history working in the field of public policy, most recently serving as Director of the Criminal Justice Committee for the Texas Senate.

Justin originally hails from Big Spring, Texas.  He is a proud Texas Aggie, having graduated from Texas A&M University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his Juris doctorate from Texas Tech School of Law in 2002.  In his spare time, Justin loves tennis and traveling.
